To make high CBD canna butter
Start with the same 1/2 ounce of high potency CBD rich pot and get 2 cups (1 pound) of butter. First decarboxylate the herb as shown above. Then place the butter in a pan along with 2 cups of water and place on medium heat. When that is melted add the decarboxylated pot. Simmer on the stove for 2-3 hours. Stir regularly to avoid burning the mixture. Then strain the butter into a glass container. Allow the butter to cool in the fridge. After a while the butter will rise to the top and separate. Peel off that layer of cannabis infused butter and place in a medical container in the fridge for later use.
To estimate potencies of the tincture or butter, consider that a 20 % CBD strain in 14 grams of pot (1/2 ounce) would mean there is 2.8 grams of CBD or 2800 mg available. Then divvy this to find your dose.
In the tincture 2800mg/500ml= 5.6 mg of CBD per ml.
In the butter 2800 mg/16 oz.= 175 mg CBD per ounce or about 6.25 mg CBD per gram of butter. Theres about 4.5 grams in a teaspoon. So each teaspoon of butter would carry about 28 mg of CBD (6.25 x 4.5) A 1/2 teaspoon of butter would carry about 14 mg of CBD.
However (big however), the reality is that those major constituents are not easily extracted and the processing of the herb can cause a good percentage of the CBD to be lost. When edibles are measured after extraction, often only 30-60% of the CBD (or THC) is captured. That means unless you are going to test each batch that you create, its smart to at least halve that final mathematical figure. And then to make things more complicated, when we are working with butter, the infused cannabis is not evenly situated. That means the top level will contain different amounts of constituents than the bottom half. Arrrrrgh!!! So what can one do? One option is to simply purchase product from a reputable seller, or as herbalists have done for thousands of years….experiment a bit. Do a little cooking and tincture making, try your product and find out what dosage personally works for you.
